Getting Started

Welcome to StitchCraft! This guide will help you set up text and image customization on your products in just a few minutes.

Quick Setup Checklist

Step 1: Install StitchCraft

  1. Find StitchCraft in the Shopify App Store

  2. Click Add app

  3. Review the permissions and click Install app

  4. Choose a subscription plan (all plans include a 14-day free trial)

After installation, you'll land on the StitchCraft dashboard.

Step 2: Add Fonts

Fonts determine how your customers' custom text will appear. You need at least one font before enabling customization.

To add a font:

  1. Go to Fonts in the StitchCraft menu

  2. Click Add Font

  3. Enter a display name (e.g., "Classic Script", "Bold Sans")

  4. Upload a font file (.ttf or .otf format, max 5MB)

  5. Click Save

Tips:

  • Add 3-5 fonts to give customers variety without overwhelming them

  • Use descriptive names that help customers choose

  • Test fonts with different text lengths to ensure readability

  • Drag and drop to reorder fonts (first font is the default)

Step 3: Add Colors

Colors represent the thread or ink colors available for customization.

To add a color:

  1. Go to Colors in the StitchCraft menu

  2. Click Add Color

  3. Enter a display name (e.g., "Navy Blue", "Rose Gold")

  4. Choose a hex color code OR upload a texture image

  5. Click Save

Tips:

  • Use color names customers understand (not color codes)

  • For embroidery, consider uploading actual thread texture images

  • Limit to 8-12 colors for best customer experience

  • Drag and drop to reorder colors (first color is the default)

Step 4: Upload Overlay Images (Optional)

If you want to offer image customization zones (where customers pick from pre-made graphics instead of typing text), upload your overlay images.

To add an overlay image:

  1. Go to Images in the StitchCraft menu

  2. Click Upload Image

  3. Enter a display name (e.g., "Heart", "Star", "Monogram Crest")

  4. Upload a PNG or SVG file (max 2MB, transparent background recommended)

  5. For SVGs: enable "Allow color customization" if customers should be able to change the image color

  6. Click Upload

Tips:

  • This is your store-wide image library — you choose which images are available per product when setting up customization zones

  • Single-color SVGs work best for color customization

  • Use transparent backgrounds so images blend naturally with products

Step 5: Configure a Product

Now you're ready to enable customization on a product.

To set up a product:

  1. Go to Products in the StitchCraft menu

  2. Find the product you want to customize

  3. Click Set Up Customization

  4. Set the customization price (or leave blank to use store default)

Add Customization Zones

Each product can have multiple customization zones. There are two types:

  • Text zones: Customers type their own text (names, monograms, messages)

  • Image zones: Customers pick from your overlay image library

To add a zone:

  1. Click Add Zone

  2. Enter a name (e.g., "Chest Text", "Logo")

  3. Choose the zone type (Text or Image)

  4. Position and resize the zone on the product image

  5. Configure zone-specific settings:

Enable the Product

Once you've added at least one zone, toggle Enable Customization to make it live.

Step 6: Add the Widget to Your Theme

StitchCraft uses a theme app extension that you need to enable.

For Online Store 2.0 Themes (Dawn, etc.):

  1. Go to Online Store > Themes in Shopify Admin

  2. Click Customize on your current theme

  3. Navigate to a product page

  4. Click Add block or Add section

  5. Find StitchCraft in the Apps section

  6. Add the Product Customizer block

  7. Position it where you want (usually below product options)

  8. Click Save

Positioning Tips:

  • Place the widget after variant selectors but before the Add to Cart button

  • The widget only appears on products with customization enabled

  • Preview different products to ensure proper placement

Step 7: Test the Customer Experience

Before going live, test the full customer journey:

  1. Visit a product page with customization enabled

  2. Select "Add customization"

  3. Enter sample text in a text zone and/or select an image in an image zone

  4. Choose a font and color

  5. Verify the preview looks correct on the product image

  6. Add to cart and check that customization details and fee appear

  7. Complete a test order

  8. Check the order in Shopify Admin to see customization details

Optional: Set Up Email Notifications

By default, Shopify order confirmation emails don't show customization details. You can add them with a simple template edit.

  1. Go to Email Setup in StitchCraft

  2. Copy the provided Liquid code snippet

  3. Go to Settings > Notifications in Shopify Admin

  4. Expand Customer notifications and click Order confirmation

  5. Click Edit code

  6. Search for "Customer information" and paste the code before it (outside the existing <table> tag)

  7. Save and send a test email

  • Customized Orders: Recent orders with customizations

  • Plan Usage: Orders used vs. plan limit

  • Quick Links: Fast access to common tasks
